Promoting Social and Emotional Learning in BRAC Primary Schools

BRAC Education Programme took a scheme on a pilot basis to improve social and emotional skills among the students of BRAC primary schools. The aim was to make the learners more social and shaping their behaviour and thoughts in a positive way. After 10 months of programme implementation, this study was undertaken to see the classroom situation level. Several aspects of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) was already included in regular BRAC curriculum.
How Far BRAC Primary Schools Admit Students Following the Set Criteria?

BRAC primary school model was developed to take education at the doorstep of poor people. A number of criteria for eligibility in BRAC schools were set so that admissions of poor children are ensured. Recently the programme organizers (POs) have been facing difficulty to follow the 25 years old criteria. This is mostly because of Bangladesh’s improvement in school enrolment and poverty status. Analyzing data on the BRAC school students who enrolled in 2010 along with the findings of previous studies on the same and the Education Watch and other relevant studies, this study found that the claim of the POs is mostly true.
Computer -aided Learning and Mentoring for Improvement of Teaching Quality: an Assessment of BRAC Interventions

BRAC launched computer-aided learning (CAL) in six and mentoring project in five rural secondary schools with financial support from the ministry of education. Both were piloted for one year. This study aims to explore the changes occurred due to implementation of the above. Various qualitative techniques were used. The teachers and students were found convinced that the initiatives were helpful in improving the quality of teaching and learning in their schools. They noticed some of the initial changes that occurred at the classroom level.
